Projects » Rumored Roles
Wuthering Heights
Character: Cathy
Production Status: Unknown
Director: John Maybury
Screenwriters: Olivia Hetreed (screenplay), Emily Bronte (novel)
Genre: Drama / Romance

It was announced in August 2008 that Abbie had signed on to the new film adaptation of Wuthering Heights as Cathy opposite Michael Fassbender's Heathcliff. Natalie Portman and Sienna Miller were rumored for this at one point. However, it was announced in May 2009 that the film was being made "younger" with Gemma Arterton and Ed Westwick taking over as the star-crossed lovers of the story.

Last Battle Dreamer
Character: -
Production Status: Cancelled
Director: Menno Meyjes
Screenwriters: Menno Meyjes
Genre: Drama / Period

On September 6th, 2007, The Hollywood Reporter published the announcement that Abbie Cornish, Ryan Phillippe and Sean Bean have been officially cast. Last Battle Dreamer was to be filmed in Germany in spring 2008. Ryan Phillippe was to star as a seventh-century Viking warrior named Thorfinn who, along with his older brother, the battle-scarred Hakon (Sean Bean), invades Britain. Said Abbie: "It's essentially a love story but told amidst Viking battles, there's blood, there's glory, there's fighting, there's wolves, there's birth and death. I'm playing an English woman that a Viking falls in love with when the Vikings come to pillage her city."

The film was post-poned and later on put on shelf. As of 2008, Abbie is no longer attached.

Quantum of Solace
Character: -
Production Status: Released November 7, 2008
Director: Marc Forster
Screenwriters: Ian Fleming, Neal Purvis, Robert Wade
Genre: Action / Adventure / Drama / Thriller

Australian magazine New Idea published the first Bond 22 Bond girl mention, which linked Abbie to star back around December 2006. Usually every 'it' or 'up and coming' young actress is listed to be a Bond film at one point or another. We assume this is the reason behind how it was started. There is no word which character Abbie was set to play, but word was that she has met with the producers and was top choice for the next Bond girl role.

Other actresses that were rumoured for this film at one point include Gemma Arterton, Rachel McAdams, Amy Winehouse and Carice van Houten.

Updates
August 1, 2007 - According to MTV.com, fellow Aussie and a personal friend of Ms. Cornish, Rose Byrne, has stated that she believes Abbie will indeed be the next Bond Girl! "I think Abbie Cornish's got it," Rose exclaimed during an interview.

August 3, 2007 - Abbie Cornish's agent spoke out about the rumors and said the information was not accurate, denying that Miss Cornish was the next Bond girl. Still there has been no other actress mentioned since Abbie's agent downed rumors.

September 16, 2007 - In an interview with News.com.au, Abbie herself denied reports she would be the next Bond girl - a suggestion made by fellow Australian actor Rose Byrne. "It wasn't a statement as much as it was a bit of a joke - poor Rose," she said. "I'm not doing the Bond film." ComingSoon.net has also published a report about the producers of Bond 22 Latina actress, and the site adds that production will begin in the UK, across Europe and South America January 2008.

January 16, 2008 - The two Bond girls for the still tenitively untitled Bond 22 have been cast and confirmed. Picking up where Casino Royale left off, the new James Bond film will see newcomer and British actress Gemma Arterton play MI6 Agent Fields. Arterton is best known from her performance in the comedy St. Trinian's of this past year. Playing the lead love interest is Ukrainian born model/actress Olga Kurylenko. She plays Camille, a woman who "challenges Bond and helps him come to terms with the emotional consequences of Vesper's betrayal." Kurylenko received the certificate of excellence award at the 2006 Brooklyn International Film Festival for her performance in L'Annulaire and is best known for the films Paris, je t'aime and Hitman.
