We travel back and forth in time with Wally and Wallis, two fragile but determined women whose lives become inextricably linked. However, as the story unravels it becomes apparent that Wallis Simpson's life was not as perfect as Wally had thought.

Quotes from Abbie Cornish

• "Madonna's a strong, independent woman who doesn't need a man to define her – and that's admirable. She's studied every aspect of what happened with Wallis Simpson and Edward VIII. It's a fascinating insight into class and romance. Madonna's created a contiporary woman – whom I will play – called Wally, who is fascinated by what happened to Mrs Simpson, and in a way, her story mirrors certain aspects of what happened decades before."

• "There was so much in the script. I was amazed, we shot it all. I know Madonna had to work hard in the editing room because it could be like a four hour film—you have two stories that run parallel. So you have two whole lives that you are trying to express and tell, and get [the film] under two hours."
