She is used to seeing her name up in lights but actress Abbie Cornish is urging Australians to switch them off.
The Stop-Loss star is lending her support to this year’s Earth Hour. On Saturday, March 28, governments, businesses and citizens around the world will turn off their lights for one hour to demonstrate a commitment to reduce global warming.
“Earth Hour is a wonderful way to raise awareness about our environment and how to nurture it for a better future,” said Cornish, whose acting skill, looks and relationship with US actor Ryan Phillipe have led to her profile soaring. “It encourages thought on the little things we can do to make a bigger difference.”

Abbie is reported in talks for Zac Snyder’s all-girl cast film Sucker Punch. Snyder’s concept – which he wrote with Steve Shibuya – is Alice In Wonderland with weapons and R-rated, claret spilling fight scenes.
Sources say Amanda Seyfried is in negotiations to play the lead role of Baby Doll, a young woman who has been committed to an insane asylum and fantasizes about escaping with the help of her fellow inmates, who take on fantastical roles in her mind.
Offers are out to a slew of young actresses to fill out those roles, along with Abbie they include Vanessa Hudgens, Evan Rachel Wood, and Emma Stone. The $100 million budgeted film for Warner Bros. is scheduled to begin production in the Fall. Says Snyder, who is also producing the film with his wife Deborah Snyder, “I already did the all-male cast with 300, so I’m doing the opposite end of the spectrum.”

She’s billed as one of Hollywood’s hottest but a recent photo shoot became a little too smokin’ for Abbie Cornish.
The LA-based actress was caught out when fire crews arrived at the penthouse suite of Justin Hemmes’ The Ivy as she was shooting for a photo spread for this month’s Harper’s Bazaar.
An overzealous smoke machine wheeled into the bathroom for a steamy shower scene set alarms off and fire engines to arrive at the George St complex.
When firemen burst into the bathroom to attack the blaze they were greeted by Cornish dressed in just black Prada underwear and Gucci sunglasses.
The 26-year-old actress has also revealed that she’s not about to return home soon, with her growing relationship with US actor Ryan Phillippe keeping her in LA.
“If I wasn’t in love with him I’d be on the road travelling,” she said.
