Abbie Cornish is set to give a welcome female boost to Martin McDonagh’s Seven Psychopaths.
The Sucker Punch star will be joining former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko in the male-dominated cast, which already includes Colin Farrell, Christopher Walken, Tom Waits, Sam Rockwell and Woody Harrelson, reported the New York Daily News.
The 29-year-old Australian actress is said to be playing Kaya, the girlfriend of Colin’s character.
The twisty tale focuses on unemployed actor and part-time dog thief Billy (Sam), who wants to help his best friend, struggling screenwriter Marty – played by Colin – by any means necessary.
The Daily Mail’s Baz Bamigboye is reporting that Ralph Fiennes, who will be making his directorial debut with The Invisible Woman, has been meeting with a number of actresses to discuss the possibility of them portraying the character of Nelly in the film. Those on Fiennes’ list are believed to include Abbie Cornish, Imogen Poots and Felicity Jones. For now, though, he is only meeting them — not offering them the role. The film tells the story of Charles Dickens’ secret love affair and is based on Claire Tomalin’s well-researched best-seller.
There has been a lot of project rumours circling around Abbie this past year and most of them have been just that: rumours. As per usual, we’ll keep you updated if things are officialized.
Oliver Stone’s Savages now has both its male leads, with Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch both signing on to play the marijuana drug dealing best friends Ben and Chon. But Stone is still looking for his female lead, and after Jennifer Lawrence dropped out to do The Hunger Games instead, names such like Olivia Wilde were thrown in to the mix. Deadline is now reporting that Abbie Cornish, along with Blake Lively and Teresa Palmer, is reading for the role of O, a friend of Ben and Chon who is kidnapped and held for ransom by drug lords.
Production is due to start in June, and also stars Benicio Del Toro and Salma Hayek. However, Abbie is due to start filming The Girl in April so I do wonder if there would be a conflict of schedules between these two projects. We’ll keep you posted on what happens!
Abbie Cornish’s publicist has informed us that there is no truth to the rumors about Abbie’s involvement in the film Whisperings and Lies. There were preliminary discussion between Abbie and the filmmaker that happened several months ago. However, there’s nothing more to report beyond this since the film doesn’t have financing.
Abbie’s next project will be David Riker’s The Girl, which begins filming at the end of April in Texas and Mexico. Please refer to The Girl film page for further details regarding the movie.
Bleeding Cool has received a tip-off that Abbie Cornish will return to her Bright Star sport of playing kissy face with the great artists of history in the upcoming biopic Whisperings and Lies. Bruce Beresford’s film will be a drama about composer and pianist Sergei Rachmaninoff, and the women with whom he formed a love triangle – one of which will apparently be played by Ms. Cornish.
Back when Beresford first signed on to direct, some five years ago, the project was being called Rhapsody. All this time later, the only new info to come to light is this new name for the film, and this small piece of casting. And the fact, I suppose, that the project hasn’t shrivelled up and blown away in the wind.
Beresford is currently drilling out the aspirational, will-shoot-for-inspirational Zebras, based on the true story of a mixed race South African soccer team. I assume that Whisperings and Lies will be his follow up.
At this time, Ms. Cornish’s representation are yet to respond to our request for formal confirmation.
