Harpers Bazaar (Australia) - March 2008

Miss Abbie is featured in the March 2008 issue of the Australian edition of Harper’s Bazaar with Nicole Kidman on the front cover. There’s a huge editorial inside of her with beautiful photos and a nice article.

According to the article, Last Battle Dreamer has been delayed because of the strike (which is - thankfully - over now). Abbie’s next movie will be Bright Star, which will start filming in March.

I want to thank Lisa for taking the time to purchase and scan this magazine for us. Much appreciated!

Abbie to Warble

As if having Hollywood at her feet isn’t enough, Australian rising star Abbie Cornish plans to release an album.

“I love to play music,” the Elizabeth: The Golden Age star told Insider.

Cornish spends her down time between films - not that there’s much of that these days - working on music at her family’s farm in the Hunter Valley.

Being able to hold a note will also come in handy when Cornish begins her next film, Last Battle Dreamer, alongside Ryan Phillippe.

“There’s a scene where we recite a poem to each other, and it’s half-singing and half- spoken - it’s very melodic,” she says.

Power to Reign Supreme

Check out this new and very informative article from The Courier-Mail, in which Abbie discusses her current projects and mentions that there’s an Australian film that she hopes to film next year. By the way, she also states that Last Battle Dreamer will start filming “somewhere in Europe – they don’t know yet” in the next few weeks.

She’s the Australian Scarlett Johansson; the next Cate Blanchett or the next Nicole Kidman; an actor tipped to be more popular internationally than Naomi Watts.

Yet 25-year-old Abbie Cornish, back home briefly to join co-stars Blanchett and Geoffrey Rush in launching the Australian release of Elizabeth: The Golden Age, says she’s unfazed by the comparisons.

Despite a cold, she’s on the phone from the venue for the Elizabeth publicity event, the Sydney Theatre Company.

“I take all that stuff as a compliment. They’re all wonderful actresses and to be compared with them . . .” says Cornish, who attracted international film interest with her lead role in Cate Shortland’s 2004’s multiple award-winning drama Somersault.

Abbie Shocked by Ryan Rumour

Rising Aussie star Abbie Cornish was shocked by the public hatred she faced when linked romantically to co-star Ryan Phillippe and blamed her for the break-up of his marriage to Reese Witherspoon.

Cornish told our LA reporter Peta Hellard yesterday that she took six months away from acting to step out of the limelight after the experience.

“That was scary,” Cornish, 25, said. “I kept thinking, ‘Don’t pay attention to what they write’.

“With the media now, and especially the internet, there is not much you can do.

“I do find it strange that they express dislike and judge without having access to the truth - they say and do anything about anyone and it only generates hate.”

Cornish also denied reports she would be the next Bond girl - a suggestion made by fellow Australian actor Rose Byrne.

“It wasn’t a statement as much as it was a bit of a joke - poor Rose,” she said. “I’m not doing the Bond film.”

New Project - ‘Last Battle Dreamer’!

Writer-director Menno Meyjes is setting sail on his Viking epic Last Battle Dreamer with Ryan Phillippe, Abbie Cornish and Sean Bean on board, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film is scheduled to shoot later this year, and is backed by Future Films, with Handmade Films International handling sales duties. Phillippe will star as a seventh-century Viking warrior named Thorfinn who, along with his older brother, the battle-scarred Hakon (Sean Bean), invades Britain.

Phillippe and Cornish will next be seen together in Kimberly Pierce’s Stop Loss. Meyjes is now completing post-production on his biopic of Spain’s most famous matador, Manolete, starring Adrien Brody and Penelope Cruz.
