News & Gossip Role Rumors

Major news, Abbie fans!

According to Deadline, our favorite leading lady is in negotiations to play the wife of Joel Kinnaman’s lead character in the remake of sci-fi actioner Robocop. Should she choose to sign on, Abbie will join Kinnaman as the mangled policeman-turned-cybernetic crimefighter, Gary Oldman as a scientist, and, most recently, Samuel L. Jackson as a TV mogul. Quite a cast!

Jose Padilha is directing the project with filming slated to begin in the next few months. Robocop will hit cinemas on August 9, 2013.

MGM is moving quickly on its Robocop remake. Abbie Cornish has been offered the female lead in the Jose Padilha-directed remake of the Paul Verhoeven-directed original. The Killing‘s Joel Kinnaman has been set to play the title character, a cop who, near death, is turned into an indestructible crime-fighting force, and then begins to remember his past life. Cornish has been offered the role of his wife, who thinks she is a widow. Samuel L. Jackson is also reportedly in talks to join the cast. Cornish will next be seen in The Seven Psychopaths and just appeared in the Dave Riker-directed The Girl, which bowed at the Tribeca Film Festival. She’s repped by WME and Untitled.

This could be a great opportunity for our favorite actress. The director is very good and the cast amazing. Let’s go Abbie! I just hope that the script is as well as the cast…

Well put, annatar003, I’m generally not a fan of this recent remake craze but this project does sound like it could have actual potential.
